It’s daybreak in the present of the past. The aroma of freshly baked Irani bread is filling up the Baugs. Marigolds, Gajras, roses, newspapers, and Cutting Chai are setting stalls on pavements. Soon enough, troops of bicycles off for delivery, a classic Fiat driving to open shop, and a scooter of romance are riding the same road, in full glory. Amidst all this cacophony, the still life lied. The rustic colonies, buildings, and Manzils that were once painted bright today are a passage through time. The lady in the window upon a glance tells stories of the past. The graffiti on the wall was once a meeting spot. The Gullies are now archives of the era gone by.
Inspired by the city that dreamers colonised, Bombay Dreams by Riyaz Merchant, Creative Director at Tokiké brings to life the old city of dreams by living memories of the forgotten Bombay architecture that is scarcely preserved beyond the limits of the skyscrapers through art you can wear.
A STORY BORN OUT OF BOMBAY
Riyaz found his inspiration for the collection in the difference between the colonial Bombay of gothic architecture and the vintage Bombay that truly has given the spirit the city it was then and it has become today. The independent housings and the collective office buildings hiding in the by lanes of the Chowks had a dreamy, cinematic effect on Riyaz’s imagination, diving him deeper to play with the art that lies beneath. In the structures, colours, and detailing of the collection, you’ll find him reminiscing over this nostalgia weaved together with Tokiké’s signature style built together as one story.

Completely functional and easy to move from occasion to everyday, the silhouettes and the design of the bags embody the Tokiké spirit that give you equal parts of everything — freedom, creativity, and statement.
LABOUR OF ART
We encourage slow fashion and stay away from the mass production of our products. Our designs are made from cotton canvas and polyester/nylon, handcrafted with upcycled stock load fabrics sourced from top mills, yarn-dyed and stitched together precariously for some heavy duty usage. Every bag comes with atleast 15 to 28 top-notch quality components, all that have been sourced by handpicking. The bags also undergo intense wear and tear testing to ensure their strength and quality before they become your everyday companions.
